My new and improved plan of hanging both kayaks in the basement for the summer is kaput.  I thought we could put them on a rack straight down from the basement steps, so we just have to carry them up and out to get them on the car.  Alas, our house is not long enough.  The kayaks are so long, they'd reach from the basement wall to the bottom of the steps, forcing us to dodge and weave through the doorway whenever we'd want to go in the back rooms of the basement.  Here's what we are doing temporarily, which would really work much better if the white one were flat enough on top that we could set a cup of coffee on it.
